Tricky conditions in Palma de Mallorca

Palma de Mallorca is well known for its sunshine, warm weather and light winds, yet this time it has been a bit differently. First World Cup in Europe and the first WC with the majority of top sailors has concluded on Saturday with medal races in all sailing classes.

This year’s sailing conditions weren’t as nice as previous years - sailors have waited for wind on the water for hours, there has been a few storms in the meantime and some strong winds as well.

In the Finn class, 6 sailors in top 10 wore sandiline gear, proving that our gear is currently best in the world. The winner was Giles Scott. Sandiliner Jonathan Lobert was 3rd, Vasilij Žbogar 6th, Ivan Kljakovič Gašpič 9th and Deniss Karpak 10th.
Here is a photo gallery proving what we are saying.

Žbogar continues to win

Bay of Cadiz hosted Andalusian Olympic Week in the end of February and beginning of March. Vasilij Žbogar won in Finn class, claiming his 5th consecutive win (excluding world championship).

“We have finished a really challenging regatta with strong winds and many races. The consequence is that finn sailors can barely walk. I sailed really well. I still have some drawbacks to take care of, especially in strong winds because of my weight,” told Vasilij after Sunday’s racing.

In Laser Standard class Sandiliner Eliot Merceron did a really great job and missed the podium by just one place, finishing in great 4th place.
We can’t wait to see what our sailors will show at the upcoming World Cups.
